In light of the prenup negotiations that Mariah Carey had with James Parker, for a marriage that never happened, it was quite ridiculous.
At first, Mariah Carey was awarded $1 Million, for every year that she stayed married to Parker, by his representative, Robert Rankin, but Mariah’s people turned it down claiming she earns that much in 45 minutes.
“Mariah earns that in 45 minutes for a private performance. This is insulting!” her representatives said.
Parker’s team adjusted the prenup and offered her $6 Million for every year they stayed married or $151,385 per week up to a maximum of $30 million.
Mariah Carey was also to get a credit card but she could only use it for living and staff expenses, not clothes, and could not exceed a certain amount each year. There would be no joint account and neither Carey nor her kids would inherit any money from Parker.
He would only provide one jet for her use and that of her kids and nannies. The document stated that it would be in appropriate for him to provide more than one jet for her use.
The document continued:
James shall have no further obligation to provide clothing for Mariah, but he may, as he chooses, make any gifts of clothing,” and, “Except for gifts between them for their engagement, wedding or on birthdays and anniversaries, no item of jewelry and/or personal adornment costing over $250,000 will be deemed a gift unless accompanied by, or promptly followed by, a writing specifically stating, ‘This is my gift to you.’
Sources claim Mariah’s people felt like she was being used and as such, James got annoyed. In an email seen by TMZ, he wrote:
“I don’t know who’s working for who because there are a lot of names I haven’t heard before on this e-mail chain. The people who work for me — message — do as I say or f - -k off. I want to get married on March 1st. James.”
